4 Ways to Improve Watching TV with Hearing Loss

Posted by on

Hearing loss can bring on a lot of struggles; communicating with others, feeling left out/unaware, and even people speaking for you. But there is nothing worse than snuggling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a movie and not being able to hear it.

After a long hard day or just wanting to spend time with family, watching TV is a way to relax and sit down for a while. Hearing loss shouldn't have to take away from that. This article tells you everything you need to know about watching TV with hearing loss.

4 Ways to Hear the TV Better

  • Wireless Headphones: They may not be the most comfortable thing in the world, but they are a great solution to hear the TV better. The headphones will block out any outside noise that may be distracting and overpowering.
  • Wireless Streaming to Hearing Aids: There is now a model of hearing aids that actually has TV programs. Hearing aids alone will help, but it never hurts to have a little more clarity. This world has become so tech savvy, use it to your advantage!
  • Home Theater Systems: These can make a huge difference. The surround sound will improve the clarity of what you are trying to listen to and drown out the noise around it. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to feel like they are at a movie theater?
  • Use the Subtitles: This may not always be necessary but it is a nice reference to have if you miss what someone said. Some people actually enjoy them after a while and it is a lot cheaper than going out and buying any of the technology above.

Rest and Relaxation

Going through a hearing loss is hard enough, not to mention when your source of relaxing is put in jeopardy. Next time you are trying to enjoy a movie and are struggling to find clarity in the sound, try one of the above options. Some may like one more than the other, no one is the same.

If your family member has to take one of these extra measures to enjoy the experience, try and put yourself in their shoes. No one wants to wear headphones in a movie or have to read subtitles word for word, but if it helps them then let it be! Do your best to help them out and don't add extra, unnecessary noises.
